Hahahah. Hewes all the way.
My first photo class, like 7-8 years ago, I think the place I went to ran out of Hewes reels (or maybe I was being cheap, I dunno). I went with another metal reel as a replacement for all of photo 1. It was a disaster.
The Hewes reels were almost foolproof. I’m not sure you can even purposely misalign a roll on them. But, I hate to say it, the plastic ones are even easier. I didn’t use them often, mostly if I needed to clean some negatives and i didn’t have my own tank with me.
I don’t know why my photo teacher was so adamantly agains them.
Didn’t realize my old developing tank had a roll of film on the reel. Weird thing is that it’s a color roll, so I must have been trying to clean the negatives since we didn’t have color development chemicals. (Taken with instagram)
